The Russian Defense Ministry reported the repulsion of four counterattacks by the AFU on the Kursk direction

Servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces have repelled four counterattacks of the Ukrainian army in the Kursk region. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 20.

It is noted that the units of the "North" group of forces defeated the formations of the tank, heavy mechanized, four mechanized two airborne assault brigades, as well as a brigade of marines and three brigades of territorial defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the areas of 12 settlements.

In addition, in the areas of 20 localities, the Russian military hit the Ukrainian army's manpower and equipment with strikes of operational-tactical, army aviation and artillery fire.

"Over the day the losses of the AFU amounted to more than 460 servicemen, destroyed four tanks, four infantry fighting vehicles, an armored personnel carrier, nine armored fighting vehicles, 57 vehicles, five artillery pieces, a mortar, a radio electronic warfare station, an armored repair and recovery vehicle, as well as four UAV control points and an ammunition depot," - follows from the message of the department.

Earlier in the day, Alexei Dedov, interim deputy chairman of the Kursk region government, said that more than 100 houses were damaged as a result of AFU attacks in the region. According to him, 831 window units were damaged, 194 of them were restored during the week. They also repaired 10 roofs of private houses and three more - in apartment buildings.

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6, 2024. The situation in the region was recognized as a state of emergency of federal character. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
