Ukraine 's accelerated accession to the European Union (EU) threatens Poland's economy. This was stated by presidential candidate Karol Nawrocki in an interview with the Sieci weekly on January 19.

"In the context of Ukraine's integration, I will be guided solely by Polish interests. Poland has been adapting to EU rules for about a dozen years, and therefore cutting the path for Ukraine is not only unfair, but also jeopardizes many areas of the Polish economy," said Nawrocki.

The presidential candidate added that Ukraine's accession to the EU cannot be without certain conditions. He would set such conditions so that the Polish economy would be protected and the country would benefit.

On January 15, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that Poland would work to speed up Ukraine's accession to the association during the EU presidency.

Earlier, on December 12 last year, OSCE special representative for Ukraine Maresh told Izvestiya that he intended to supervise more than 20 projects adopted bypassing Russia and to prepare Kiev for EU and NATO accession.

Ukraine applied for accelerated NATO membership on September 30, 2022. At that time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (term expired in May 2024) said that in fact the country is already in the alliance and meets its standards. The country applied for EU membership on February 28, 2022.
