WADA will not appeal to CAS in the case of Polish tennis player Schwentek
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) will not appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the case of Polish tennis player Iga Schwentek. A publication on the agency's website on January 20 indicates that.
"WADA confirms that after a thorough investigation, it will not appeal to CAS in the case of Polish tennis player Iga Schwentek, whose doping test in August 2024 turned out to be positive," the press release reads.
It was found that the athlete's positive test for trimetazidine was caused by a contaminated preparation of melatonin, which serves as a medicinal product in Poland. WADA called this scenario plausible and noted that there are no scientific grounds to challenge it in court.
On November 28, 2024, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) reported Schwentek's disqualification for a month due to a positive doping test. It was specified that the tennis player had been taking contaminated melatonin for some time due to sleep problems due to time zones when traveling by air. So, the violation was not willful.
