China has executed a driver who drove into a crowd
China has executed Fan Weiqiu, who drove his car into a crowd of people and was found guilty of premeditated murder of 35 people. This was reported by the BBC on January 20, citing state media.
In addition, another 43 people were injured when the 62-year-old driver hit a group of people playing sports near the stadium.
"China has executed a man found guilty of killing at least 35 people in a car attack in November," the publication said.
It is noted that police took Weiqiu to hospital after his capture because the man had stabbed himself.
According to the court report, the perpetrator's motives are "extremely lowly" and the consequences are extremely serious, representing great harm to society.
Weiqiu's death sentence was announced on December 27, 2024. The court found that the motives for the crime were personal anger over the divorce and dissatisfaction with the division of property. The appropriate sentence was imposed because the offense was deemed extremely violent and dangerous to society.
A man committed a hit-and-run attack on a crowd in Zhuhai on November 11 of the same year. The incident killed 35 people and injured 43 others. The driver tried to flee the scene but was apprehended.
