Servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces have liberated the settlements of Shevchenko in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and Novojehorovka in the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR). This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 20.

Novoyegovka was liberated by units of the "West" group of troops. Also, the servicemen of the Russian army defeated the manpower and equipment of two mechanized and infantry brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the areas of three settlements in the DNR.

As a result, the Ukrainian army lost up to 400 soldiers, a Bradley infantry fighting vehicle and an American-made M113 armored personnel carrier, three armored combat vehicles, seven vehicles, five field artillery guns, and a field ammunition depot.

The settlement of Shevchenko was liberated by units of the Group of Forces Center. Among other things, the Russian Armed Forces defeated the living forces and equipment of five mechanized and motorized infantry brigades of the AFU, as well as two brigades of the National Guard in the areas of six settlements in the DNR.

In doing so, the AFU lost up to 545 soldiers, two US-made M113 armored personnel carriers, three vehicles and a 122-millimeter Gvozdika artillery unit.

Earlier in the day, the Russian FSSB in the DNR reported that the DonbassDome air defense and electronic warfare (REB) system had detected and intercepted 137 Ukrainian drones over the settlements of Donetsk and Makeyevka during the week. It is specified that one of the AFU attacks was thwarted near a private sector water supply facility in the Kirovsky district of Donetsk.

The Ukrainian armed forces are shelling the territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics, as well as Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions on a daily basis amid the special operation to protect Donbas, the start of which was announced by Russia on February 24, 2022.
