Trump called Ovechkin a great player
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump called Russian hockey player and captain of this team Alexander Ovechkin a great player during his speech before his inauguration, which was held at the home stadium of the Washington Capitals hockey club (HC) Capital One Arena on January 19.
"Ovechkin is a great player, isn't he?" - the president-elect said.
He also thanked the owners of the arena and noted the fact that the Russian hockey player's team is in a great position.
Earlier, on January 17, it was reported that Ovechkin scored a puck in overtime of the regular season match of the National Hockey League (NHL) against the Ottawa Senators, thereby reducing the gap from Canadian Wayne Gretzky to 20 goals. Ovechkin's puck was the only one of the game. It helped Washington win the away game.
Before that, on January 12, Ovechkin scored his 873rd puck in the match against the Minnesota Wild and reduced the gap between Wayne Gretzky and 21 goals. The puck was thrown into an empty net in the 19th minute of the third period. The match ended with a score of 4:1 in favor of the Washington Capitals.
