An order of the Russian Ministry of Transport on a 50% discount on children's air tickets of Russian carriers came into force on January 20. The discount is available on domestic flights for children from two to 12 years of age who fly with accompanying passengers.

At the same time, children under two years old flying without a separate seat for them will be able to get free tickets for domestic flights and a discount of at least 90% for international flights.

The exceptions are business class tickets and tickets for subsidized routes. In addition, according to the order, airlines must now provide free of charge to children under 12 years old a seat adjacent to their escorts.

Earlier, on January 9, Russian Transport Minister Roman Starovoit announced that from January 10, all Russian airlines will offer a 50% discount for children under 12. According to him, the main air carriers implemented the sale of discounted tickets as early as the end of December 2024.

Before that, on December 19, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin at a combined direct line and press conference demanded from airlines to stop the practice of waiving ticket benefits by manipulating fares. He emphasized that, according to the legislation, airlines should provide families with children with a 50% discount on the standard fare.
