On January 20, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on the exploits of Russian army servicemen in carrying out combat missions in the zone of the special military operation (SMO).

The ministry noted the feat of Chief Warrant Officer Gamid Dzharullayev, who was carrying out the task of delivering ammunition to Russian Armed Forces (AF) soldiers in an area in close proximity to the line of contact. It is reported that while approaching the positions of Russian units, the vehicle driven by Dzharullayev came under heavy mortar fire from the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and an FPV drone attack.

Under enemy fire, the senior warrant officer, skillfully maneuvering on a difficult terrain, managed to steer the vehicle away from the flight path of the AFU kamikaze drone and took the vehicle out of the target zone of enemy mortars, timely delivering ammunition to the front line. This allowed the Russian fighters to knock the Ukrainian fighters out of the fortified stronghold and gain a foothold in it during the offensive.

The Defense Ministry also noted the merits of Private Alexander Rubachev, who, acting as part of an assault unit, carried out a combat mission to take control of enemy positions in an important direction of the Russian troops' offensive. Thus, in the darkness of night, Private Rubachev's group stealthily outflanked the enemy stronghold and, taking advantage of the suddenness, broke into the position.

He himself was among the first to enter the battle and, conducting aimed fire, destroyed six Ukrainian fighters. Having cleared the stronghold, Rubachev and his fellow soldiers organized a line of defense to repel enemy attacks. The private's group was able to hold off enemy counterattacks until the arrival of the main forces.

Earlier, on January 19, the agency noted the merits of Junior Sergeant Ilya Lukashov, who at an observation post in one of the defense areas detected the movement of a sabotage group of the AFU in the direction of Russian positions. Having equipped a place for firing, skillfully using the terrain conditions for cover, having waited for the enemy to be in ambush, he started firing at him. The enemy group suffered heavy losses within minutes, and the survivors fled, leaving the wounded behind. The Defense Ministry also noted the actions of Sergeant Nikolai Dvornikov, who detected two Ukrainian drones while advancing as part of the lead patrol. The drones were conducting reconnaissance on the path of the probable route of the Russian convoy.

Also on that day, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that tanks of the Center group of forces destroyed an AFU stronghold in the Krasnoarmeysk direction. At the same time, UAV operators of the Center group of troops were adjusting the fire.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
