Slovakia is ready to support the agreements on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine that may be reached by Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President-elect Donald Trump. Tibor Gašpar, deputy speaker of the republic's parliament, told TASS on January 19.

"Slovakia will support whatever Trump and Putin agree on. Probably it is neutrality, military neutrality of Ukraine," he said.

Gašpar also noted that Slovakia is in favor of solutions that imply security guarantees for both Russia and the European Union (EU).

Earlier, on January 17, political analyst Dmytro Solonnikov said that the West and Ukraine were not considering conflict settlement options that could suit Russia.

On the same day, Reuters quoted sources as saying that the majority of Ukrainian citizens did not believe that Trump would be able to settle the conflict. It was specified that the citizens of Ukraine are more committed to the fact that the conclusion of peace depends on themselves.

Before that, on January 10, Trump emphasized the need to "end" the Ukrainian conflict. He added that he was preparing for a meeting with the Russian president after his inauguration, scheduled for January 20.

Putin, in turn, emphasized in September that the Russian side has never given up on negotiations on Ukraine, but not on the basis of "ephemeral demands" but on the basis of the parameters agreed in Istanbul.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
