Iran shares Russian President Vladimir Putin 's position on the importance of a multipolar world. Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian said in an interview with Vladimir Solovyov for the Solovyov Live TV channel on January 19 .

"We are gradually converging our views and approaches, and we share Mr. Putin's position on unipolarity. This feeling and understanding that there should be multipolarity in the world is growing stronger every day among countries that seek freedom and independence," he said, pointing to the sense of camaraderie and closeness in beliefs on both sides.

The Iranian president pointed out that the U.S. leadership, meanwhile, still gravitates toward a unipolar world.

"They believe that the whole world should be under their control and move according to their goals and desires. Naturally, Russia is not satisfied with this approach. It is inconceivable that a country like Russia would find itself in such a framework," Pezeshkian added.

The Iranian president arrived in Moscow on an official visit on January 17. Pezeshkian laid a wreath of scarlet roses and white lilies at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Alexander Garden and met with the Russian leader, who emphasized the importance of the Iranian counterpart's arrival. After the meeting, Pezeshkian and Putin signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement.

After signing the document, Pezeshkian noted that Russia plays an important role in the Islamic Republic's foreign policy and the new treaty will open a "new big chapter" in the partnership between the states. The Russian leader, in turn, pointed out that ties between Moscow and Tehran are large-scale and mutually beneficial. He also presented his Iranian counterpart with a samovar and a painting of Russia's winter landscape.
