- Djokovic refused to give an interview after the Australian Open games because of the words of a journalist
Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic refused to give an interview after the fourth round match of the Australian Open because of the words of a journalist about Serbs. On Sunday, January 19, the athlete said he will continue to boycott the interview until the offender apologizes.
"A couple of days ago, a well-known sports journalist working for an official TV channel in Australia mocked Serbian fans and made insulting and offensive remarks about me," Djokovic said in a video message published on his social network X (former Twitter) page.
He noted that neither the journalist himself nor the Australian channel apologized to him. Djokovic also indicated his willingness to pay a fine for ignoring the interview.
The day before it was reported that the first racket of Russia Daniil Medvedev was fined $76 thousand for his behavior at the Australian Open.
The athlete broke his racket on the net during the match and damaged the camera attached to it, and later got into an argument with the referee after his remarks and missed the mandatory post-match press conference.
