Servicemen of the search and rescue group on the Mi-8PSG helicopter of the Russian Air and Space Forces (AFS) conducted daily escort of the army aviation crews on Ka-52, Mi-28 and Mi-35 helicopters in the border areas of the Kursk Region. Footage of the military's work was shown by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 19.

The search and rescue group, if necessary, promptly arrives to provide assistance and transportation of the military to the point of permanent deployment, the ministry specified.

The rescue team also provides fire support.

Earlier in the day, the Defense Ministry reported that the crew of the Su-34 multirole supersonic fighter-bomber of the Russian Armed Forces destroyed armored vehicles and personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Kursk border area. It was specified that the crew, having received confirmation from intelligence about the destruction of targets, safely returned to the airfield of departure.

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6, 2024. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by the President of the Russian Federation on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
