Two earthquakes and several aftershocks were recorded on the South Coast of Crimea

Two earthquakes and six weak aftershocks have been recorded in the Yalta region on the South Coast of Crimea. This was reported on January 19 by Marina Bondar, Deputy Director of the Institute of Seismology and Geodynamics of the Crimean Federal University named after Vernadsky Marina Bondar "RIA Novosti".

"The first tremor occurred at 4:59 Moscow time at four kilometers from the seismic station "Yalta", <...> followed by six aftershocks," Bondar said.

She added that the magnitude of the first shock amounted to 2.8. Another, weaker aftershock occurred at 12:09 Moscow time. It had a magnitude of 2.0.

According to Bondar, the Institute of Seismology can not make a forecast for a stronger earthquake, as for the Yalta region weak and regular tremors are the norm.

Earlier, on January 14, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.6 was recorded in Kamchatka. It was specified that the origin of the earthquake lay at a depth of 35.7 km. There was no information about casualties and damage.
