- Foreign Ministry promises punishment for AFU fighters guilty of atrocities in Kursk region
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, has promised that the Ukrainian militants guilty of atrocities against civilians in the village of Russkoe Porechnoye in Kursk Region will be punished. Her words are quoted on January 19 on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"These atrocities are yet another blatant statement of the terrorist and neo-Nazi gut of the Kiev regime, which once again in its evil military and political impotence against the backdrop of defeats at the front organized a cannibalistic massacre of civilians," Zakharova said.
She said Western countries "cynically avert their eyes" from the actions of Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) fighters, continue to authorize supplies of military aid to the country and block attempts at international investigations.
According to Zakharova, it is clear to Russia that there will be no clear-cut response from the United Nations (UN) and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
"We will do it ourselves. The investigative bodies of the Russian Federation will carry out all necessary actions to identify those responsible, and in the future those will suffer deserved and inevitable punishment," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman promised.
The day before, the Telegram channel of the "North" group of troops published footage showing the bodies of civilians found in cellars in the village of Russkoye Porechnoye in Kursk region.
On January 19, the Russian Foreign Ministry's ambassador-at-large for crimes of the Kiev regime, Rodion Miroshnik, said that the AFU fighters captured in Kursk Region said that they had been ordered to kill the peaceful Russian-speaking population.
He stressed that the crimes of the Ukrainian militants were proof that the Kiev regime, backed by the West, was waging a targeted war against Russian-speaking people.
The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6, 2024. The situation in the region was recognized as a state of emergency of federal character. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
