Foreign rights of those who have obtained Russian citizenship will become invalid in 2025

Foreign driver's licenses of citizens who have obtained Russian citizenship, residence permit or temporary residence permit will be considered invalid. This was told to "Izvestia" on January 19 in the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

"The norm of invalidation of foreign driver's licenses is established," reads the text of the law that will come into force on April 1, 2024.

It is specified that the norm begins to take effect at the end of a year from the first entry of a person who received citizenship or residence permit into Russia after receiving a foreign license.

For a trip with an invalid license the driver faces a fine of up to 15 thousand rubles and suspension from driving until the restoration of the document.

On the eve of the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reminded that driving licenses, which expired or will expire between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2025, will have to be replaced, as they will become invalid in 2025.
