Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov, who received a cake with decorative Russian books for his birthday, has started receiving death threats on the Internet. This was reported by the online newspaper Strana in its Telegram channel on January 19.

The mayor of Odessa celebrated his 60th birthday on January 17.

It is specified that the photo of the dessert with books by Alexander Kuprin, Mikhail Zhvanetsky and Isaac Babel was published in social networks. After that, a wave of negative comments fell on the mayor. In them, people began to insult the official and wished him to be killed, specifies the media.

Earlier, on December 6, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, whose powers expired on May 20, is inadequate if after all his statements about the Russian-speaking population he wants to bring people of Russian culture back under his control. Lavrov recalled Zelensky's speeches where he spoke out in defense of the Russian language and talked about the brotherhood of the peoples of Russia and Ukraine.

Attempts to abolish Russian culture in Western countries began against the backdrop of Russia's special operation to defend Donbass since February 2022.
