- Medvedev assessed the possibility of normalization of relations between Russia and the United States
The decisions of outgoing US President Joe Biden will affect relations between Russia and the United States for a long time to come. Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said in his Telegram channel on January 19.
"The malicious tabs of Biden's decisions will manifest themselves for a very long time. And therefore it will be extremely difficult to communicate. Full normalization of Russian-American relations will drag on for decades," he pointed out in the message.
He also noted that the Biden administration has left its successors a very difficult, crisis legacy, and because of this, normalization of relations between the countries is likely to be impossible at all.
On January 1, U.S. Ambassador to Russia Lynne Tracy said that Washington is ready for a constructive and respectful dialog with Moscow, despite the existing differences. She emphasized that there is a great need for diplomatic efforts between the countries at the moment.
Earlier, on December 22, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that Russia is ready to normalize relations with the United States, but not to the detriment of its interests. Thus, the head of state answered the question whether it is possible to resuscitate Russian-American relations, which were in decline due to Washington's steps.
Prior to that, on November 6, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that relations between Washington and Moscow are at a historically low point. He noted that the Russian side is always ready for dialog, which is based on justice, equality and concern of the two countries.
