Lavrov assessed the damage done by the Biden administration on US-Russian relations
The administration of outgoing U. S . President Joe Biden has caused enormous damage to U.S.-Russian relations. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
"The damage is enormous," he said, answering a relevant question to VGTRK journalist Pavel Zarubin. The video was published on January 19 in his Telegram channel.
Lavrov also noted that Donald Trump's administration under his rule in 2017-2021 also caused serious damage to Russia-US relations. However, he said, this was caused by the policies of the 44th leader of the United States, Barack Obama, who left Trump a legacy in the form of worsened ties between the two countries.
The foreign minister noted that the Biden administration is trying to do the same thing that Obama did then - to leave a "bad" legacy.
Earlier, on January 14, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Moscow was considering the possibility of telephone contacts between Russia and the United States after Trump's inauguration. He emphasized that the dialog between the countries should be based on mutual respect and equality.
Earlier, on January 1, US Ambassador to Russia Lynn Tracy said that Washington was ready for a constructive and respectful dialog with Moscow despite the existing disagreements. She emphasized that at the moment there is a great "need for diplomatic efforts," and therefore the American side needs to "continue to preserve existing ties and build new ones" between Russia and the United States.
Before that, on December 22, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that Russia is ready to normalize relations with the United States, but not to the detriment of its interests. In this way, the head of state answered the question whether it was possible to resuscitate Russian-American relations, which were in decline due to Washington's steps.
