SNN has learned of the IRGC's demonstration of Iran's secret underground naval base
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, special units of the Armed Forces) High Command has revealed a secret underground base of the country's naval forces (Navy). This was reported by SNN news agency on January 18.
"The first underground city of the IRGC Navy was demonstrated, and representatives of the IRGC high command spoke about the strategic expansion and high potential of deterring the Islamic Republic of Iran at sea," the publication said.
The agency pointed out that the base demonstrates not only "the country's military might" but also "the victory of the people over sanctions." According to Major General Hosein Salami, the Iranian Navy is actively using the new "Red Bee" strike ships. This name was given to them by the Americans because of the speed of movement and firing, he noted.
For his part, IRGC Navy Commander Sardar Alireza Tansiri pointed out that Iranian forces can "conduct long-term naval operations against enemy destroyers" and urgent naval operations.
"The IRGC Navy, which once started with armed fishing boats, is now a regional power capable of conducting complex and large-scale operations at a level beyond the country's water borders," the publication said.
Earlier on December 18, 2024, political scientist, economist and Columbia University professor Jeffrey Sachs pointed out the impossibility of defeating Iran. He noted that Iran has very strong allies in the form of Russia and China. In addition, he added that the state is a member of the BRICS association and cooperates with the Russian Federation.
Prior to that, on December 17 of the same year, The New York Times, citing a poll, reported that a number of American congressmen advocated the use of nuclear weapons by the U.S. president without congressional approval in the event of an attack by another state. The poll was conducted among 530 congressmen who will begin work in the House of Representatives and the Senate in January 2025.
On December 13, 2024, The Wall Street Journal, citing informed sources, reported that Trump is considering pre-emptive airstrikes against Iran to prevent the Islamic Republic from developing nuclear weapons.
