US President-elect Donald Trump wants to visit China in the first 100 days after his inauguration. The Wall Street Journal(WSJ) reported on January 18.
"According to knowledgeable sources, President-elect Donald Trump has told his advisers that he wants to visit China after taking office," the publication said in its material.
As specified in the newspaper, Trump's possible trip will be aimed at deepening relations with Chinese President Xi Jinping, which have been strained by the threat to impose higher duties on Chinese imports.
It is noted that the final decision on the trip to China has not yet been made.
Earlier, on January 17, it became known about the telephone conversation between Trump and Xi Jinping. Then it was also reported that the Chinese leader will miss the inauguration of the President-elect of the United States on January 20. Later, Trump confirmed that the phone conversation with the President of China took place. He expressed hope that together with Xi Jinping the US will be able to solve many problems and make the world more peaceful and safe. The South China Morning Post reported on January 4 that Sino-US relations under Trump's presidency could improve if he fulfills his "goodwill intentions." Meanwhile, Denis Denisov, an expert at the Financial University under the Russian government, shared with Izvestia on December 13, 2024, that Washington and Beijing may tighten mutual sanctions after Trump's inauguration. According to him, it is more likely that the countries' relations will worsen.
