Turkey is ready to undertake a mediation mission in the settlement in Ukraine if the appropriate conditions arise, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said. This was stated by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on January 18.

"We support all initiatives in this direction. If appropriate conditions arise, we are ready, as before, to assume a mediatory role," he said at a press conference broadcast on the Turkish Foreign Ministry's X page (former Twitter).

Fidan emphasized that Turkey had been in favor of a peaceful settlement "from the first day" of the conflict in Ukraine.

Earlier, on January 12, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Fidan discussed the situation in Ukraine with the Russian foreign minister. It was noted that special attention was paid to the need to prevent actions aimed at creating risks to energy security.

On January 2, the Turkish Foreign Minister also said that the country was in favor of an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine. According to him, the conflict should end as soon as possible.

Before that, on December 20, 2024, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban called the Turkish government the only successful mediator in the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. The politician added that Turkey's big achievement was the grain export agreements between Russia and Ukraine.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
