On January 19, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on the exploits of Russian army servicemen in the zone of the special military operation (SMO).
The ministry drew attention to the merits of junior sergeant Ilya Lukashov, who was on duty at an observation post in one of the defense areas. During the observation Lukashov detected the movement of a sabotage group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the direction of Russian positions. He reported this to his command and decided to ambush the militants on their way.
After that, the junior sergeant equipped a place for firing, skillfully using the terrain conditions for cover, and, when the enemy was in the firing sector, began firing at him. The enemy group suffered heavy casualties in a few minutes, and the survivors fled, leaving the wounded behind. As a result, the AFU was prevented from penetrating the Russian troops' defense area and possible personnel losses were prevented.
The Defense Ministry also noted the actions of Sergeant Nikolai Dvornikov, who detected two Ukrainian drones while advancing as part of the lead patrol. The drones were conducting reconnaissance on the path of the probable route of the Russian convoy.
After they were detected, Dvornikov took a concealed position, assessed the distance to the targets and shot down both drones. Thanks to the actions of the non-commissioned officer, it was possible to prevent the enemy from detecting the Russian troops. The convoy of the Russian Armed Forces arrived at the designated area on time without casualties.
Earlier, on January 18, the Defense Ministry reported that the tank crew under the command of Lieutenant Sergei Ilchenko destroyed firing points of Ukrainian militants, large-caliber machine guns and part of the enemy infantry. The tank platoon also restrained the actions of the defending enemy, ensuring the passage of the main forces of the battalion tactical group deep into the enemy's defense.
On the same day, the Russian military grouping of troops "North" destroyed an assault group of the AFU on the outskirts of the settlement of Glubokoye in Kharkiv region. Ukrainian militants were taking cover in the cellar of one of the houses, trying to protect themselves from drones. A unit of the Russian Armed Forces detected the enemy group with the help of aerial reconnaissance means.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
