A thousand-strong anti-Trump protest was held in Washington, D.C.
A large-scale demonstration "People's March" against US President-elect Donald Trump took place in Washington. Images from the site on January 18 are published by Izvestia.
Demonstrators held a rally between the two main American memorials - Washington and Lincoln. As noted by "Izvestia" correspondent Anton Zolotnitsky, the participants of the action were both residents of the US capital and visitors from other states.
"He wants to destroy democracy. <...> He has already started to take over the media, to control the agenda," shared Mary, a participant in the demonstration.
During the march, slogans for women's reproductive rights, freedoms for social and racial minorities, and immigrants were heard. According to the demonstrators, Trump's policies undermine these principles, and this action could be the last for the next four years.
Earlier, on January 15, in the United States expressed fears about the possibility of terrorist attacks at Trump's inauguration. Threats of violence are also possible from those who were dissatisfied with the results of the election and may consider the inauguration ceremony as an opportunity to change the political course of the country.
The inauguration ceremony of the elected president of the United States will be held on January 20, 2025.
The election of the 47th president of the United States was held on November 5, 2024. In the national vote, Trump received 51% of the votes, while the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris received 47.4%. Later, the Republican, speaking to supporters, called himself the 47th president of the United States and said that his goal as head of state considers the end of military conflicts in the world.
