As a result of successful offensive actions, the Russian Armed Forces have liberated the settlements of Petropavlovka and Vremivka in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). This was reported by the Defense Ministry on January 18.

It is reported that the "Center" troop groups liberated the settlement of Petropavlovka. As a result, the enemy lost about 585 servicemen, three armored combat vehicles, four vehicles and four artillery pieces.

Also, units of the Vostok group of forces liberated Vremivka of the DNR. The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) lost up to 135 servicemen, two armored combat vehicles, three vehicles and five foreign-made field artillery guns.

On January 15, the Russian Armed Forces liberated the Ukrainka settlement in the DNR. In addition, the Russian military struck the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) manpower and equipment in the settlements of Dvurechnaya, Zvanovka, and Petrovka in the DNR.

Earlier, on January 14, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that a BM-21 Grad multiple rocket launcher system (MLRS) of the Center group of forces struck an AFU stronghold in the Krasnoarmeyskoye direction. The attack was carried out with fragmentation-fugitive shells and the target was successfully destroyed. Having accomplished this combat task, the Russian artillerymen assisted the assault units.

The special operation to defend Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
