Almost 14 tons of fuel oil was collected near the stern of the wrecked tanker Volgoneft-239. Collection of oil products continues. This was reported on January 18 by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in Telegram-channel.
"Nearly 14 tons of fuel oil were collected at the stern of the tanker "Volgoneft-239"; more than 1.5 thousand kg of sorbent were used," - stated in the message.
In total from oil products cleaned more than 280 km of the coast.
It is reported that in Sevastopol survey 165 km of the coast between the settlements of Laspi and Andreevka, there removed 4.5 tons of fuel oil. To eliminate the consequences involved more than 4.3 thousand people and more than 740 units of equipment. In Krasnodar region 220 km of the coast are being surveyed and 289 tons of waste have been removed for a day. In Crimea, over 181 km of the coast were cleaned and about 6 tons of fuel oil were collected for a day.
On January 17, Oleg Chelyadinov, deputy head of the Krasnodar regional emergency rescue service "Kuban-SPAS", said that the removal of sand contaminated with fuel oil from the main territory of beaches in Anapa was completed. It was reported that the number of vehicles on the main part of the coastline was being reduced as the work had been successfully completed.
Earlier, on January 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin thanked the volunteers who are engaged in cleaning up the fuel oil spill. The head of state added that he expects the government commission to work actively to eliminate the consequences of coastal pollution.
Tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239" due to bad weather crashed in the Kerch Strait on December 15, 2024. The incident resulted in a spill of oil products. 27 people were evacuated from both vessels, one person died.
