Media reported a commotion among Americans over Trump's inauguration change of venue
Thousands of Americans who have been preparing for months for the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump were caught off guard by an order to move the ceremony indoors. The Washington Post (WP), a US newspaper, reported on January 18.
"Law enforcement officials called an emergency meeting. Members of Congress learned about the change from the media and then answered hundreds of calls from confused constituents who had tickets to the festivities," the publication said.
Also, according to the material, employees of the Capitol rotunda in the shortest possible time had to have time to prepare the room for the ceremony. In turn, Americans who bought tickets to Washington and booked hotels in the city, will reconsider their plans for a trip to the capital, added "Gazeta.Ru".
As noted in WP, the owners of 220 thousand tickets for the event will now not be able to use them. Capital One Arena, in the walls of which people will be able to watch the ceremony, can accommodate only up to 20 thousand people.
Trump's order to move the inauguration ceremony indoors, in the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol, became known on January 17. The reason for the decision of the President-elect of America was bad weather.
On the same day, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that Russia would probably not be represented at Trump's inauguration. At the same time, he noted that Russia's Charge d'Affaires in the United States will attend the ceremony if he receives an invitation.
On January 16, NBC News reported that former U.S. presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush Jr. and Barack Obama would attend Trump's swearing-in ceremony, but not the subsequent inaugural dinner. An invitation was also sent to former first lady Hillary Clinton, but she also does not plan to attend.
Prior to that, on January 9, the President-elect of the United States announced that he was preparing to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He added that he plans to hold all such contacts after the inauguration.
The US Congress on January 6 approved Trump's victory in the 60th presidential election held on November 5, 2024. The decision was announced by incumbent US Vice President Kamala Harris, who had competed with Trump as a candidate.
