- WSJ has learned of Trump's plans to launch a major raid against migrants as early as Jan. 21
The new administration of US President-elect Donald Trump plans to launch a large-scale raid against migrants as early as January 21, the day after the inauguration of the elected leader of the country. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal(WSJ) on January 17.
It is noted that the raid will begin in Chicago (Illinois) on Tuesday and will last until the end of the week. The raids will also take place in New York, Los Angeles (California), Denver (Colorado) and Miami (Florida). Illegal migrants with criminal records will be identified first.
"According to four people familiar with the plan, the new Trump administration plans to conduct a major immigration raid in Chicago next week. It is the first step in President-elect Donald Trump's promised campaign of mass deportations," the publication said in a story.
The raid is planned to involve about 200 employees of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the newspaper specified.
Earlier, on January 17, it became known that the Trump team intends to declare a state of emergency to combat illegal migration. It was reported that the US is also developing an executive order to abolish the right to American citizenship by birth.
Before that, on December 28, 2024, the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump's team may use military bases, army and aircraft to deport illegal migrants from the United States. According to the publication's sources, the president-elect plans to declare a state of emergency on immigration and expel illegals en masse on the first day after the inauguration.
Former United States ambassador to Switzerland Edward McMullen said on Nov. 7 that the Republican was looking for the most competent people to appoint to his administration to fight uncontrolled migration and execute strategies on the economy and foreign policy.
Trump, at the time still a presidential candidate, said in his final speech before the Nov. 5 election that migrants were the reason the U.S. was an occupied country. He promised to "save" every city and town that had been "invaded and conquered."
The US Congress on January 6 certified Trump's victory in the 60th presidential election held on November 5, 2024. The inauguration of the president-elect will take place on January 20.
