Iranian President Pezeshkian says double standards are unacceptable
Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian said at a joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin on January 17 that double standards are unacceptable for Russia and Iran.
Responding to a question from Izvestia correspondent Victor Sineok, Putin said that the balance of power in the world should be based on the United Nations (UN) Charter. Pezeshkian agreed with the Russian leader and noted that countries do not allow double standards.
"Double standards are unacceptable for us. You cannot run the world by double standards, so to speak," the Iranian president said.
He emphasized that all countries are equal among themselves and respecting human rights is a worldwide task. Pezeshkian said his meeting with Putin on January 17 is an incentive to build a multipolar world.
Earlier in the day, Putin and Pezeshkian signed a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty between the two countries. Putin said the new treaty will give the two countries' partnership an additional impetus on all fronts. He also pointed out the importance of Pezeshkian's visit to Russia, as his arrival provides an opportunity to discuss all areas of cooperation.
The Iranian president arrived in Moscow on an official visit in the morning of January 17. Among those welcoming him were the head of Russia's Energy Ministry, Sergei Tsivilev, and representatives of the Foreign Ministry. Pezeshkian laid a wreath of scarlet roses and white lilies at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Alexander Garden.
