TikTok will sponsor the inauguration party of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. This was reported on January 16 by Politico with reference to the organizers of the event.

According to the publication, TikTok will spend $50 thousand on the party "in honor of influencers who helped Donald Trump spread his campaign message."

It is noted that the event is scheduled for January 19 - the day when the social network will stop working its application in America.

The organizer of the celebration and co-chair of the Youth Advisory Council of the national Committee of the Republican Party CJ Pearson specified that the party will be held in a restaurant in downtown Washington.

Chinese company ByteDance is preparing to shut down its TikTok app in the US on January 19.

Current U.S. President Joe Biden signed legislation to ban the app in the country on April 24, 2024. Then the Congress overwhelmingly approved this measure, stating about possible surveillance of US citizens through the application by the Chinese government.

The social network, in turn, said it would defend its rights to operate in the United States in court, and banning it would "destroy 7 million companies and deprive 170 million Americans of a voice."

Later, on December 28, Trump petitioned the Supreme Court to stay a law threatening to ban the TikTok social network. He did not take a firm position on the constitutionality of the law, though he said it raises "broad and troubling" concerns about free speech.
