- In Transnistria, schoolchildren will switch to distance learning due to the energy crisis
In Transnistria, schoolchildren in the beginning of the third academic quarter, which starts on January 20, will switch to classes in asynchronous distance format due to the energy crisis. This was reported on January 17 on the website of the government of the unrecognized Transdniestrian Moldovan Republic (TMR).
"In conditions of fan power cuts, the training sessions will be held in asynchronous remote format," the publication said.
It is noted that in case of gas supply the premises in schools should warm up to +18...+20 degrees, established by sanitary and epidemiological norms.
The press service of the PMR government specified that the format of work of higher and specialized secondary educational institutions will be announced later.
Earlier, on January 16, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia was ready to assist Transnistria in dealing with the gas crisis. At the same time, he stressed that Chisinau should ensure the conclusion of relevant contracts, as well as offer certain logistical solutions for the implementation of supplies.
For his part, Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean expressed dissatisfaction with Russia's decision to supply natural gas to Transnistria. According to him, the resumption of gas supplies will contribute to the building up of an alleged military potential in Transnistria, which "will be directed" against Ukraine and Romania.
The fact that Russia will send humanitarian gas supplies to Transnistria amid the energy crisis was announced on January 15 by the president of the unrecognized DMR, Vadim Krasnoselsky.
On January 1, 2025, Gazprom stopped supplying fuel to Europe through the Ukrainian gas transportation system. The state corporation said that this happened due to Ukraine's refusal to prolong the agreement.
An economic state of emergency has been in effect in Transnistria since December 9, 2024. In early January, it was reported that 1.5 thousand multi-storey and 72 thousand private houses were left without heat and gas.
