- India's foreign ministry said it was working to agree on dates for Putin's visit to New Delhi
Russia and India are coordinating the dates on which Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit New Delhi on the sidelines of the annual summit of the two countries. Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal told a briefing on January 17.
"This year we have to hold the annual summit in India, as it is practiced every year. <...> The dates of the summit will be agreed through special channels. When it becomes finalized, we will communicate them," Jaiswal said, his speech was broadcast on the YouTube channel of the Indian Foreign Ministry.
He recalled that the Russia-India summit alternates venues: in July 2024 it was held in Moscow, and in 2025 it is to be held in India.
Earlier, on December 2, 2024, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the Russian leader's trip to India had indeed started to be prepared.
Later, on December 10, Putin received Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh at the Kremlin. The meeting was attended by Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, who himself had held talks with Singh before that and noted that defense cooperation between Moscow and New Delhi was successfully developing.
The Russian President met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the BRICS summit in Kazan. The Russian leader indicated that he appreciates the preservation of partnership between Moscow and New Delhi and representatives of the two states are developing major projects in different sectors.
Modi was on an official visit to Moscow on July 8. On the day of his arrival, the prime minister held a meeting with Putin and discussed with him the prospects for the development of relations between the two states.
