Dagestan-born Magomed Abdulaev, a soldier of the Russian Armed Forces (AF), defended a dugout with a fellow soldier for eight days and then held the position alone for another 21 days. Izvestia published a video of the soldier, which he shot himself in the dugout, on January 17.

Abdulaev is from the village of Karanai in the Buynaksky district of Dagestan. He served in the assault company of the 136th Brigade. The soldier was on the front line 200 meters from the enemy and transmitted information to the Russian military about the movements and use of heavy weapons by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Thanks to the coordinates reported by Abdulaev, it was possible to eliminate an entire company of the enemy.

The footage was shot two hours before the New Year: the soldier congratulated his family and friends, not knowing whether he would be able to contact them next time. Nevertheless, the fighter did not lose his presence of mind and held firm, despite the fact that all supplies had run out.

"We had such a moment four or five days ago: what the 'bird' was dropping us, <...> water [of] 0.5 liters, it ran out," the military man said.

He shared that the drone that was delivering supplies was suppressed by the enemy in a dangerous place. The fighter, risking his life, picked up this drone so that it would not go to the AFU.

After that, with frostbitten legs Magomed, having overcome 10 kilometers, helped to evacuate a wounded comrade. Now the Dagestani fighter continues to be treated for frostbite in a Moscow hospital.

Earlier, on November 9, 2024, Russian soldier Zakarya Aliyev, who held a stronghold alone for three weeks, was rescued in the special operation zone. Then the fighter was spotted by scouts of the Alania battalion using a drone and evacuated. The head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, called Aliyev a hero.

The rescued military man said on November 13 that he communicated with the Alania fighters with the help of posters and notes that were dropped to him from drones in bottles. The military took Aliyev out of the danger zone with the help of drones.
