The Defense Ministry reported an attempt by the AFU to attack the Belgorod region with ATACMS missiles

On 16 January,Ukraine attempted to attack Russian territory with US-made ATACMS missiles. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 17.

"Another attempt was made from the territory of Ukraine to launch a missile attack on facilities in Belgorod region with six US-madeATACMS operational-tactical missiles," the ministry said.

It is specified that all missiles were shot down, there were no casualties or damage as a result of the attacks.

The Russian Defense Ministry indicated that measures for a retaliatory strike will be taken.

Over the week, air defense (air defense) assets shot down 12 ATACMS missiles, eight UK-made Storm Shadow missiles, seven French-made Hammer aerial bombs, 48 US-made HIMARS rockets and 747 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the ministry added.

Earlier, on January 14, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Ukraine's attempt to strike six ATACMS missiles, six Storm Shadow missiles, and 31 drones at facilities in the Bryansk region, all attacks were repelled.

The special operation to defend Donbass, which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
