Kovalchuk calls Russia a key Arctic country
Russia is a key country in the Arctic region. This was stated by Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of the National Research Center (NRC) Kurchatov Institute, on January 17 Mikhail Kovalchuk.
"We are the key country of the Arctic today. <...> Our nuclear technologies today and new nature-like technologies, i.e. bioeconomy and nuclear together, combining, will turn the Arctic into a blooming land. And we can do this only by consolidating our efforts," he said.
Kovalchuk noted that the Arctic region has colossal riches. According to him, "the whole world will move there," as much attention is currently paid to the Arctic.
Before that, on January 9, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia is interested in maintaining stability in the Arctic zone. According to him, the territory is a zone of national and strategic interests of the Russian Federation. Among other things, he noted that the country would continue its presence in the region.
