Pezeshkian pointed to the strategic and comprehensive nature of Iran-Russia ties

Relations between Iran and the Russian Federation are strategic and comprehensive. This statement was made by Iranian leader Massoud Pezeshkian during talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on January 17.

"In fact, I have tried and done my best to make sure that all the problems that exist on our side until today have been eliminated. We believe that our bilateral relations with the Russian Federation are of strategic and comprehensive nature," he said.

According to him, Iran's supreme leader among other things believes that all regional problems should be solved only through bilateral agreements. Pezeshkian noted that interaction between Russia and Iran "will shed light on all problems in the region."

He also expressed hope that the talks would succeed in establishing an agreement on the construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP) in Iran.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that the talks between Putin and Pezeshkian will first take place in an expanded format, and then the leaders will be able to talk one-on-one.

The Iranian president arrived in Russia on an official visit earlier in the day The Iranian leader was met in Moscow by Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev, Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko and the head of the Foreign Ministry's State Protocol Department Igor Bogdashev. On the eve, the Kremlin press service reported that Putin and Pezeshkian will sign the Treaty on Strategic Partnership between Russia and Iran, which reflects the entry of bilateral relations to a new level. It is also known that the treaty fixes the legal framework for further development of Russian-Iranian ties in all areas for the long term.
