A defendant in the criminal case of embezzlement of 168 million rubles from safes in the depository in Sochi has been arrested, it is reported on January 17 in the Telegram-channel of the joint press service of the courts of the Krasnodar region.

"The Central district court of Sochi has chosen a measure of restraint against Alexei Lazarev. The man is a defendant in a criminal case on the theft of funds from safe deposit boxes of the multifunctional depository center", - stated in the message.

At the request of the investigation, the court remanded the defendant in custody for two months, until March 15. The defense request for house arrest or bail was rejected.

Earlier in the day, the Russian Interior Ministry reported the detention of a suspect in the theft of about 168 million rubles from the cells of citizens in the depository center in Sochi. 18 victims applied to the police.

Law enforcers promptly established that the acting director of the organization may be involved in the theft. He was detained at his workplace, and in the forest they found a cache with part of the money. A criminal case of theft on a particularly large scale was initiated.
