Owners of imported electric cars have been obliged to pay tolls on toll roads

The Russian government has extended the right of free travel on toll federal highways for electric cars until the end of 2025. At the same time, owners of electric cars-foreign cars will now have to pay for the toll, as reported on the website of the Ministry of Economic Development on January 17.

The benefit applies only to owners of cars of Russian assembly to stimulate demand for domestic electric cars. Under the new terms of the campaign, not only individuals, but also entrepreneurs and legal entities will be able to use the right of free transportation.

The Ministry of Economic Development noted that the benefit applies to drivers of Evolute, Moskvich electric cars, electric trucks from EM-Rus, as well as models Gazelle e-NN, Gazelle e-City, Lada e-Largus, Lada Ellada and Amberavto A5. The list for free travel includes the highways M-1 "Belarus" (including "Odintsovo Bypass"), M-3 "Ukraine", M-4 "Don", M-11 "Neva", M-12 "Vostok", Central Ring Road (CRR).

The campaign started on March 1, 2023, and more than 1.1 million free trips were made on toll roads until the end of 2024. Initially, drivers of any all-electric cars had the right to free travel on toll sections of federal highways.

On January 15, it was reported that at the end of 2024 in Russia were sold 17.8 thousand new electric cars, which is 26.4% more than a year earlier. This is a record result for the Russian market. The market leader for the second year in a row was the Chinese brand Zeekr, which is not officially represented in Russia. Its market share amounted to almost 43%.
