The mood in the White House, which is preparing to leave the current U.S. President Joe Biden, resembles the situation in the morgue. This was reported on January 17 by the NBC television company with reference to a source who met with representatives of the administration in the White House.

The media notes that the outgoing leader is in an absolutely depressed state, as well as his entourage. According to the source, the representative of the Democratic Party leaves his post "with the feeling that he contributed to significant victories of the country, which Americans did not appreciate."

"At the same time, Biden is not talking to some of his closest allies," NBC notes.

According to two people close to the U.S. leader, the entourage has observed Biden's mood swings - from melancholy to humility and from anger to regret - as he reflects on the outcome of his only presidential term.

"The Joe Biden story is one of the great tragedies of American politics. I really feel that way. He could have had a glorious, well-deserved, much-appreciated retirement, but he didn't. And it's hard to blame anyone but himself for that," Democratic Party political strategist James Carville told the TV station.

The media outlet adds that the 82-year-old Biden is leaving the country divided, the Democratic Party is in ruins, and Americans are "full of doubts about his own respect for the letter of the law" after the president pardoned his own son Hunter, causing a widespread public outcry.

Earlier on Jan. 17, Fox News Channel cited a statistic that more than half of Americans said they were dissatisfied with the Biden administration's handling of the economy, noting that it had only gotten worse. According to the poll, at the time of Biden's departure from the presidency, 57% of respondents disapproved of the results of his work, only 42% of Americans said they approved.

Prior to that, on January 15, Biden delivered a 17-minute farewell speech addressing the nation. During the speech, he pointed out the dangers of strengthening the oligarchy, proposed to change the U.S. Constitution and said that he had managed to preserve the freedom of Ukraine. At the same time, the speaker of the US House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, called Biden's legacy the migration crisis, persecution of opponents and strengthening of Washington's enemies.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted on January 14 that the legacy that President-elect Trump is receiving after the Biden administration is heavy. He noted: Russia expects the new US administration to formulate its approaches to international affairs, adding that Trump has voiced such a desire.

Before that, on January 13, President Biden's job approval rating fell to 35.6%. The inauguration ceremony of Donald Trump, elected as the next President of the United States, will be held on January 20.
