Russian troops repel AFU counterattacks on the Kursk direction

Russian troops have repelled a counterattack by which the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) tried to stop the Russian army's offensive in the Kursk direction in order to break out of the blocking zone. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 17.

"The counterattack of the AFU in the direction of the farm Berdin was repulsed, which the enemy undertook in order to stop the offensive of Russian troops and break out of the blocking zone," the ministry said.

The Russian Defense Ministry added that the Russian military in the Kursk region is conducting offensives in all directions.

"The offensive of Russian troops is going on in all directions. The enemy is suffering significant losses and is retreating from the occupied territories, despite the transfer of additional reserves to them," it pointed out.

Within two weeks, the Russian army liberated four settlements - Alexandria, Leonidovo, Russkoe Porechnoye and Kruglenkoe in the border areas of Kursk region, the ministry specified.

Earlier on January 17, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the calculations of FPV-drones of the motorized rifle regiment of the Army Corps of the Army Corps of the "North" group of troops destroyed the accumulations of the AFU's manpower and armored vehicles in the border area of Kursk region.

Before that, on January 16, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the crew of the army aviation on the Mi-28NM helicopter as part of a mixed tactical group disrupted the rotation of AFU units in the border area of Kursk region, destroying enemy armored vehicles with AFU personnel. At the same time, it was reported that the AFU lost more than 210 servicemen and two infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) in the course of combat operations in the Kursk direction during the day.

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6, 2024. The situation in the region was recognized as a state of emergency of federal character. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by the President of the Russian Federation on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
