In Sochi, law enforcers detained a suspect in the theft of about 168 million rubles, including in foreign currency, from the cells of citizens in the depository center. This was reported by the official representative of the Russian Interior Ministry Irina Volk on January 17.

Within a few days, 18 victims filed statements to the police about the theft of money from rented safe deposit boxes. Law enforcers promptly established that the acting director of the organization may be involved in the theft. He was detained at his workplace and taken to the police for further proceedings.

"Currently, in the forest area discovered a cache in which part of the stolen funds was stored. $600 thousand seized," - indicated Volk in his Telegram-channel.

A criminal case has been opened under Part 4 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Theft on a large scale"). The circumstances of the incident continue to establish.

Earlier, January 16, a source in law enforcement told "Izvestia" that more than half a dozen people lost more than 100 million rubles, stored in rented safe deposit boxes in Sochi. In the main department (GU) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Krasnodar region reported that the police received several statements from citizens.

Before that, on January 14, a source of "Izvestia" reported that in Moscow, a pensioner in Moscow had 1.4 million rubles stolen from her backpack while she was traveling by bus from the bank. The incident occurred the evening before in the Tagansky district of the capital. It was noted that the 73-year-old woman withdrew cash from her deposit in the bank, which had its license revoked.
