In India, seven people killed and more than 400 injured in bull taming competition
Seven people were killed and more than 400 injured during bull taming competitions in India. This was reported by The Times of India on January 17.
It is noted that the events were held in the state of Tamil Nadu, in districts such as Sivaganga, Madurai, Krishnagiri and Salem.
"Seven people <...> were killed and over 400 injured in the jallikattu and related bull taming events," the newspaper reported.
The newspaper specified that both participants and spectators were injured. Six of the people who died were at the event as spectators.
"Indian bullfighting, jallikattu, is a local bull taming sport in which the participant has to grab the bull by the horns.
Earlier in May 2024, lawmakers in Colombia, the country with the longest bullfighting tradition in the South American continent, voted overwhelmingly to ban bullfighting in the country starting in 2027.
