- The DPRK Foreign Ministry called the U.S. responsible for the unstable situation on the Korean Peninsula
Military exercises of the United States and its allies on the Korean Peninsula lead to the risk of armed conflict and destruction of regional stability. The DPRK Foreign Ministry said on January 17.
"US political and military provocations on the Korean Peninsula, where huge armed forces are on high alert and the possibility of military conflict looms, are a direct source of stimulating the risk of armed conflict and destruction of regional stability," the DPRK Foreign Ministry statement was quoted by the Korean Central Telegraphic Agency(KCTAK).
The diplomatic ministry noted that US military provocations have become increasingly alarming since the beginning of 2025. In particular, this concerns flights of US reconnaissance aircraft over the Korean Peninsula and joint trilateral air exercises of the United States, Japan and South Korea.
It is stressed that the state reserves the right to self-defense "with greater intensity".
"The DPRK will resolutely suppress arbitrary military provocations undertaken by hostile forces by more thoroughly and fully exercising its right to self-defense in accordance with the strategy of the strongest response, and will firmly maintain national security," the agency's statement elaborated.
Earlier, on December 19 last year, the DPRK Foreign Ministry said that the actions of the US and allies are a serious threat to global peace and security. It was also emphasized that the released statement of the G7 countries on cooperation between the DPRK and Russia does not reflect reality, in connection with which Pyongyang protested.
Before that, on November 23, the head of the press service of the DPRK Defense Ministry said that the US actions on the Korean Peninsula could lead to war with the DPRK. According to him, Washington should immediately stop "provocative actions" to avoid an armed clash.
On Nov. 22, Kim Jong-un, chairman of the DPRK State Council, said the Korean Peninsula has never faced such a great risk of nuclear conflict. According to him, the United States is expanding the military alliance system for the joint use of nuclear weapons in order to contain Pyongyang's power.
