- MBN has learned of the discovery of feathers in the engines of the crashed Jeju Air in South Korea
Bird feathers were found in the engines of the Jeju Air airplane that crashed at Muang International Airport in South Korea. South Korean TV station MBN reported on Jan. 17.
"There is a growing possibility that both engines failed due to a collision with a bird, leading to a shutdown due to loss of power," the TV channel said in a report.
It is specified that this is what may have increased the likelihood of a power outage on the ship.
The crash of the Jeju Air plane while landing at Muang Airport was reported earlier in the day. Authorities are investigating the scene to determine the exact cause of the crash, and rescue operations are also underway. According to the airport authority, the plane crashed on landing on the fuselage due to a landing gear failure before it could shed speed. The airliner had 181 people on board: 175 passengers (173 South Korean nationals, two from Thailand) and six crew members, two of whom survived. The bodies of all 179 dead have been recovered.
South Korean authorities have retrieved the black boxes from the plane. A flight recorder and a sound recording device have been recovered. In connection with the crash in the country declared seven days of national mourning.
At the same time, it was reported that the Republic of Korea said that the main reasons for the crash of the Jeju Air plane at Muang International Airport may be both the collision of the airliner with a flock of birds and the insufficient length of the runway for an emergency landing.
