A TOS-1A Solntsepek crew destroyed an AFU stronghold and shelters in the SSO zone
The crew of the TOS-1A Solntsepek heavy flamethrower system of the Radiation Chemical and Biological Defense (RCBZ) unit of the All-Russian Army of the Zapad group of forces has destroyed a platoon stronghold and shelters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) at night in the special operation zone. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 17.
Reconnaissance with the help of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) detected an accumulation of enemy manpower in fortified positions and transmitted the coordinates to the calculation. The TOC crew then aimed the launcher, fired a salvo and promptly left the firing position. In real time, the UAV calculations carried out the correction and control of target engagement.
The firing was conducted at night at a distance of about 6 kilometers. The crew has to work at night even more often than during the day. This is safer, and also creates the effect of surprise for the enemy, the Defense Ministry noted.
It is specified that the enemy targets were hit with thermobaric munitions. Hitting the target, the projectile sprays and ignites an explosive mixture, the temperature of which is several thousand degrees. This method helps destroy militants hiding in trenches, fortified structures or armored vehicles.
The crew's actions helped the assault groups of the "West" group of troops advance in one of the important tactical directions.
"Today we received a task to help us advance. For a long time the platoon's stronghold hindered the infantry's advance. We worked it out, everything is fine. The guys thanked us. Accordingly, the advance will continue. We are happy to help," said the platoon commander with the call sign Kuznets.
Earlier, on January 3, the TOS-1A Solntsepek units of the Center group of troops destroyed AFU personnel and equipment during the liberation of the territories of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR). This ensured the advance of the assault squads in the Red Army direction of the special operation.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by the Russian President on February 24, 2022, is still ongoing. The decision was made against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
