Servicemen of the special-purpose unit of the Center group of troops have ambushed and destroyed an advanced detachment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), which was moving on armored combat vehicles in the Krasnoarmeyskoye direction of the special military operation (SMO). This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 17.

It is specified that calculations of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the grouping passed information to Russian reconnaissance about the hidden transfer of manpower and equipment of militants near the settlement of Arkhangelskoye in the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) in order to counterattack the positions of Russian troops.

The ministry noted that the fighters covertly arrived at the firing positions and began monitoring the enemy's movement. During the night observation, the movement of the AFU units was detected on a US-made M113 armored personnel carrier, which was destroyed by fire from Kord and Utes machine guns. Later on, the enemy made attempts to evacuate the hit vehicles, for which purpose it used other combat vehicles and paratroopers, which were also destroyed by targeted fire.

"The path was thorny, it was not easy to go, the air was controlled by enemy UAVs. But gradually, slowly we reached, chose a firing position, set up our machine gun and began monitoring the enemy's movement. The result was very positive. We destroyed three enemy vehicles, one of which was an M113, a Soviet-made APC and an infantry fighting vehicle," said the gunner of the machine gun platoon, junior sergeant Maxim Laptev.

Earlier, on January 16, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the crew of a T-72B3 tank of the Center group of troops destroyed an AFU stronghold on the Krasnoarmeyskoye direction. The tankers arrived at a closed firing position and hit the enemy from a distance of up to 8 kilometers.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
