Yemeni Houthis may resume their attacks if Israel fails to comply with the ceasefire agreement in Gaza. Ansar Allah movement leader Abdel Malik al-Husi said in an interview with Al Masirah TV on January 16.

"In case of any Israeli retreat [from the agreement], mass attacks and siege, we will be ready to directly provide military support to the Palestinian people," the leader of the movement said.

He clarified that the Palestinian issue is not resolved at the moment and concluding a ceasefire and hostage release agreement is one of the points to end the conflict. He said the Yemeni movement will continue its work together with Palestine even after the signing of the treaty.

Earlier in the day, Abdel Malik al-Husi announced that the Houthis will continue to attack Israel until a complete ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the truce comes into effect.

The ceasefire agreement in Gaza became known the day before. It is expected to go into effect on January 19. In the first phase of 42 days, 33 Israeli hostages are to be released in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

At the same time, on Thursday, January 16, the Telegram channel of the military wing of the Palestinian radical movement Hamas reported that the Israeli military struck the place where one of the hostages, who is to be released in the first stage of the deal, was located. Hamas representatives noted that any manifestations of aggression on the part of Israel could "turn the release of hostages into a tragedy."

At the same time, Ruslan Andreev, an expert at the Polylog Group and political consultant, expressed the opinion that Israel, despite the ceasefire agreement, is interested in continuing the conflict with Hamas.

The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected Israel's territory to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
