- The White House recognized the impossibility of giving the PRC economy a "knockout" blow with U.S. sanctions
US sanctions will not be able to significantly harm China's economy and deliver a "knockout blow". Dalip Singh, deputy assistant to the U.S. president for national security, said this at a public event on January 16.
He noted that the PRC and the US are gradually becoming equal competitors. In addition, China has important technologies that provide the state with a "soft power factor in the international arena."
"This speaks to the need to have the analytical muscle to model what a tit-for-tat escalation looks like in a confrontation with China. <...> There is no knockout blow that you (the US. - Ed.) can deliver without huge collateral damage. So we'd better avoid this scenario as much as possible," TASS quoted the politician as saying.
On the eve of the candidate for US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the PRC is the "main threat" to America. According to him, China has something that the Soviet Union "never had", namely technological, industrial and economic superiority. According to Rubio, Washington's competition with Beijing will determine the course of the 21st century.
Earlier, on January 5, The Financial Times wrote that Chinese leader Xi Jinping's strategy toward the administration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump is defined by clarity and determination. Experts predict that it will consist of creating various measures and restrictions in order to harm American companies, adaptation and expansion of economic ties.
Prior to this, on Jan. 4, media reported that Sino-US relations under Trump's presidency could improve if he fulfills his "goodwill intentions."
Last December, China's Defense Ministry said the US military strategy was becoming increasingly confrontational and adventurous. It drew attention to Washington's use of military superiority to forcibly change regimes and provoke color revolutions.
