In Severomorsk, baptismal bathing was canceled due to warming weather
In Severomorsk, Murmansk region, due to warming temperatures, bathing on Epiphany has been canceled. This was reported on January 16 by IA "Beeport" with reference to the regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia.
The reason for the cancelation was warming and heterogeneity of ice on the river Vaenga. The ice is layered, there is water on it.
"Employees of the GIMS center of the Main Directorate of EMERCOM of Russia in the Murmansk region do not recommend the organization of the font. This decision was supported by the administration of the ZATO Severomorsk", - said the deputy head of the department Vladimir Matsuev.
Rescuers strongly recommend not to violate the ban and not to organize baptismal baths on their own.
January 16, during a press conference in the MICE "Izvestia" scientific head of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia Roman Vilfand said that the existing stereotype of baptismal frosts is not always justified, in recent years it has been mostly warm. According to him, this year there will be no frosts practically in the whole European part of Russia.
The Russian Orthodox Church celebrates the Epiphany on January 19. On the night of Epiphany, many believers traditionally take a dip in the ice-hole. Against the background of abnormally warm weather in a number of cities the rules of bathing on Epiphany were changed, and in some regions they were canceled altogether.
