A military expert assessed the rating of military power of the world's countries
The armies of Russia, China and the United States are at approximately the same level of military power. This was stated by military expert, retired colonel Anatoliy Matviychuk on Thursday, January 16.
In his opinion, the compilers of such rankings put the United States in first place largely out of inertia.
"I believe that the United States is put on the first place by inertia and due to the fact that the compilation of such ratings is carried out, as a rule, at the behest of the United States itself in order to show that it is still the locomotive of the West," the military officer said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru.
Matviychuk explained that the military power of any country is based on three indicators: the level of economy, mobilization capabilities and the number and quality of the armed forces (AF). For these reasons, the first place should have been taken by China, the specialist said.
"If we analyze these three provisions, I would give the first place to China, because in terms of mobilization capabilities it is ahead of everyone else: it has 100-150 million people, the US has 11 million, Russia has 9 million. By all other parameters we are almost at the same level," the military expert concluded.
Earlier, the Global Firepower portal reported that the Russian army ranked second in the annual rating of military power, behind only the United States. The compilers of the list compared the military potentials of 145 states, RT reported.
More than 60 factors were evaluated to determine the military power index. Among them are the financial situation in the state, geographical location of the country, logistical capabilities and others.
The leaders of the rating were the United States (0.0744), Russia (0.0788) and China (with the same index, 0.0788). This is followed by India (0.1184) and South Korea (0.1656).
The United Kingdom, France, Japan, Turkey and Italy were also in the top ten, according to 360.ru. Ukraine closed the second ten of the rating.
Earlier, in October 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted at a meeting with media heads of BRICS countries that the combat readiness of the Russian Armed Forces is at the highest level in the world. He added that the same is true for the domestic defense industry.
In December, speaking at an enlarged meeting of the Russian Defense Ministry board, the head of state said that there was a breakthrough on the line of contact in the Ukrainian conflict due to the activity of Russian troops. The President stressed that the Russian Armed Forces have a firm grip on the strategic initiative along the entire line of contact thanks to the professionalism and courage of soldiers, the work of defense enterprises and the nationwide support of the army and navy.
He also said that the authorized strength of the Russian Armed Forces has been increased to 1.5 million people, the army is developing general-purpose forces. The share of the newest weapons in the strategic nuclear forces of the Russian Federation has already reached 95%.
