- The Verkhovna Rada called Zelensky's statement on the elections a reason for a criminal case
The words of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (term expired May 20, 2024) about violence against election supporters is a reason for a criminal case, Verkhovna Rada deputy Artem Dmytruk said on January 16.
"The Greatest threatens and calls to kill politicians. As for me - another good criminal case for Zelensky!" - he wrote in his Telegram channel.
The corresponding statement Zelensky made the day before in front of journalists in Warsaw, specified in the Telegram-channel of the edition "Zerkalo Nedeli". He made a call to "unscrew the head" of those Ukrainian politicians who continue to engage in the preparation of new elections during the conflict in the country.
Earlier, on 10 January, political analyst and former head of the Nativ special service Yakov Kedmi said in an interview that Ukraine was starting to discuss elections in order to start negotiations on ending the conflict. He also recalled that Zelensky is illegitimate and his rule contradicts the country's constitution.
Before that, on January 2, Zelensky said that he had not yet decided whether he would go for a second term because the issue of elections was not a target issue for him. The Ukrainian leader allowed elections in the country after the end of the hot phase of hostilities.
According to the provisions of the Ukrainian constitution, Zelensky's presidential term ended on May 20, 2024. Elections were supposed to be held last March, but they were canceled because of the martial law imposed by the president in Ukraine, effective from February 24, 2022.
